MaartenNEFMaarten van Herpen was appointed as Head of the Philips Africa Innovation Hub in September 2013, making him responsible for Philips’ pan-African research and innovation projects across the continent. He has been working at Philips as scientist, inventor and corporate entrepreneur since 2004. He currently holds 188 patent applications generated in the past 8 years. Mr. Van Herpen has a PhD in Physics and a Master in Business Innovation. In 2013, he was honored by the World Economic Forum as one of the Global Young Scientists 2013, a group of scientists with a proven track record of advancing the frontiers of science, engineering or technology in areas of high societal impact; all under the age of 40. In 2014 he became a member of the WEF Global Agenda Council on Social Innovation.
